So this week I had to decide what my theme for this semester of ceramics was going to be (see newly created theme page!) . It was interesting coming us with this theme but now that I have, it's really inspired me to explore what patterns I use and how I use them to convey my theme. This sounds weird, but I have been thinking about it a lot! I want to see how I can use the patterns and how to best make them stand out in 3D art. I'm going to carve out more things, experiment with colors and textures. I'm going to have fun with it! Just explore! So look forward to all of that. I didn't really do anything picture worthy this week because now that I got back from spring break I had to start up a bunch of new stuff. But pictures next week maybe! But here's a doodle I did so that there is something pretty to look at in this post.
This week was really depressing because to be honest, it was a week of failure. I tried and tried again to trow something good-- anything that I could use and I just couldn't! But luckily, toward the end of Thursday's class period I decided to make a teapot! And It actually worked! This doesn't make sense because I had been failing at making simple vases all week, but I try to not ask questions and just go with it. So I made this lovely tea pot and I decided to give it porcelain accents. On the front it says "PARTEA"...Get it? It's a pun. So yeah, I'm happy with this week. It ended up alright. Unlike literally everyone else in ceramics, I decided to not be lazy in the 2 weeks we didn't have access to the kilns because in my mind, ceramics is a privilege and nothing could make me sit around and do nothing in that class for two whole weeks. So when we finally did get access to the kilns recently, I had A LOT of things get fired. Of course there were a lot of casualties for everyone due to things on the cart getting broken, after sitting out for two weeks but I had an 80% survival rate so that made me happy. Ready for it (although the picture does really give it away...darn)? I had TEN projects come out the kiln at once. Ten. 10. What. So yeah, I spent all week glazing. Surprised? I'd say not. Anyways, LOTS of shiny stuff to glaze in the next few days so yay! |
