This is what I'm calling an "inverse bowl" because I decorated the outside with coils that project out of the surface of the clay and carvings that go into the clay. It's 5 inches wide and 4 1/2 inches tall and glazed with light blue with black glaze in the cracks and white glaze over the ridges. The theme of this bowl is opposites-- the light and dark, the protruding clay and the carved clay. I had to write an essay in this same week about opposites and how one can't exist without the other and I wanted to make a piece of art to match, so here it is.Some techniques I used include making coils and carving the clay along with painting glazes and making patterns in the clay.
